Aino Minako
The Senshi of Love
![]() |
Aino Minako first appears in the series in Episode #33 (Episode #29 in the NA version) when she appears in a battle with a youma as Sailor V. She is the fifth Sailor Senshi in the series and the fourth one Usagi meets. Sure, Minako may be the last Inner Senshi Usagi meets in the Anime, but actually Minako is THE first Sailor Senshi, period. |
Minako-chan is an interesting
character, though there are few episodes in the series where she
gets the spotlight. And the English dub only makes matters even worse. Though all the Inner Senshi have their moments, Minako's
colorful character takes the cake. In a way, her personality is a
mixture of the other 4 senshi. Like Usagi, she has an all-play and no-work attitude. She is also pretty
ditzy (more so than Usagi), flamboyant, lazy, and possesses other less
responsible traits. Like Makoto, she's highly athletic and a true
fighter, one who isn't afraid to give the enemy a Texas-sized ass-whoopin'.
She enjoys both gymnastics and volleyball, though I'm sure she'd make
a great cheerleader too. Like Ami-chan, she has her serious moments,
especially as a Sailor Senshi. She's also the most mature of the
senshi, despite popular belief and how she acts. This
maturity was brought onto her by a run-in with true love and
heartbreak, which will be explained later. And like Rei, she has a strong sense of duty, especially
when it comes to protecting the Moon
Princess, and is often the first to step in front of the bullet for
her. She also has a natural leadership ability. Though Rei
speaks of it more, Minako actually asserts it more.
Probably the personality trait that stands out most is the fact that Minako-chan's very guy-crazy, more so then even Makoto. She always complains about not having a boyfriend and is often quite desperate to get a guy. She chased the Three Lights around a lot, looking for a date with one of them (and she wasn't even their biggest fan, that honor goes to Ami-chan), she gets starry-eyed over Motoki a lot, she's scheduled two dates with both Hawkeye and Tigereye (disguised, of course) at the same time (bad Minako-chan), and she even was following Haruka around once with Usagi until she found out Haruka was a girl. Don't worry Minako-chan, you're a beautiful girl. The right guy'll come along someday. Minako-chan also has a huge dream of being super idol performing on stage. She also enjoys singing, acting, modeling, amongst other high-profile media roles. She is always the first to show off the latest line of Sailor V merchandise to the other girls, obviously trying to show off how famous she really was as Sailor V. This attention she likes to get from the girls from her past role as Sailor V probably makes up for her lack of attention from guys that she likes to chase around. Poor Minako-chan, resorting to Sailor V fame. As a senshi, Sailor Venus controls love energy. I know it's not much of an element, but all the other good elements were taken and the use of hearts sure makes for a descent weapon. The only two attacks dealing with hearts and love are her Love Me Chain and Love and Beauty Shock. The rest are done with light and beams. Her attacks become more versatile once she gets the Love Me Chain, which she uses as both a weapon and a tool. Officially, Sailor Venus leader of the Moon Princess' Senshi, even though Sailor Moon is the leader in the present. She rarely asserts this leadership role, though she does assert it while Rei merely talks the talk. Artemis, the white cat with a crescent moon on his forehead, is to Minako as Luna is to Usagi. Artemis and Minako have an interesting relationship, though, as he is always calling her lazy and stupid, a transsexual cat, and other such insults. Minako's story as Sailor V in the anime consists of only one episode, #42, which was another one cut from the English dub. Minako's career as Sailor V began in Japan. It was there she met Artemis, a white cat with a crescent moon on his forehead, who bestowed upon Minako her powers as Sailor V the same as Luna made Usagi Sailor Moon. She had few friends in Japan because she was so busy as Sailor V. She had little time to spend with people and worked hard to keep her identity a secret. So is the life of a superhero. Her youma/villain fighting career then took her to England, where she met probably her closest friend and mentor, Katarina. Katarina was a constable from Interpol, and became Sailor V's close partner in villain fighting. This working relationship between Minako and Katarina developed into one more of sisterly love. Minako looked up to her as a true older sister, and Katarina loved her and treated Minako like she was her own younger sister. She also developed romantic feelings for an Englishman named Alan, before she met Katarina. Alan was also one of the first people in England she met. She introduced him to Katarina after she had really gotten to love her big sister, and the trio spent much time together. But it was one day, when Sailor V and Katarina entered an abandoned building, a youma/man tossed a grenade at Sailor V's feet, destroying the building with Sailor V in it. Sailor V survived the explosion and limped out of the building, but Katarina saw the horrifying explosion and feared her beloved little sister to be dead. When Minako heard Alan's voice, she looked down the alleyway she had taken refuge in to see him holding her crying big sister in his arms. Minako saw this not only as a hold of comforting, but a loving embrace. This epiphany hit her hard, Alan and her big sister were truly in love. It broke Minako's heart deeply, knowing she had lost Alan to another woman. Because she loved them both and cared for them so much, she felt it would be best if she stayed dead and out of their way. She left England without a trace and went back to Japan, with Artemis as her only friend. It was also then she stopped fighting as Sailor V. "That's when I realized that Alan and Onee-sama (Katarina) were in love. I disappeared that day. I thought it would be better for them if I stayed dead." With a hot babe like Minako-chan, and a beautiful warrior as Sailor Venus, Minako can meet both a man's needs, whether they be an ass-kicking girl or a girl who can meet all your romantic needs. She's a helluva girl to date, I'll give her that. She'll go out with you anyway, just don't turn her down, or she'll be chasing you forever. |

Attacks
Crescent Beam (Venus Crescent Beam Smash) |
Sailor Venus' first attack. She points her finger in the sky, and a double crescent appears. She then points to her opponent, and from the double crescent, she fires a beam of light. |
Crescent Beam Shower (Venus Meteor Shower) |
A stronger version of Crecent Beam, which she receives in the beginning of Sailor Moon R. Her beam splits into multiple beams to strike either one or more enenies. |
Venus Love Me Chain (Venus Love Chain Encircle) |
This is Sailor Venus' most versatile attack. More powerful than her Crescent Beam and Crecent Beam Shower, a chain of hearts spirals around her, coming to end at the tips of her fingers. She then points them at her opponent to send the chain flying at them like a whip. She also uses this as a rope to pull objects or people to her. |
Probably the loveliest animation for Sailor Venus. As she says "Venus...", the sign of Venus with a heart-shaped wreath in the background appears on her hand. She then blows a kiss, forming a heart. She then spins it in a ring of hearts and sends it flying at her opponent. |
